Job Summary
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy, and hazard-free work environment by implementing and enforcing occupational health and safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a proactive safety culture across the organization. The role ensures compliance with local regulations, company standards, and international safety best practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Implementation & Compliance
- Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and programs.
- Monitor compliance with local safety regulations and applicable international standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all personnel on site.
2. Risk Assessment & Site Inspections
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions to address identified risks.
3. Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes.
- Prepare detailed incident reports and follow up on corrective measures.
4. Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training sessions for employees and subcontractors.
- Promote safety awareness and best practices throughout the workforce.
5. Documentation & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, including inspection reports, incident records, permits, and training logs.
6. Emergency Preparedness
- Support emergency planning, drills, evacuation procedures, and other response efforts.
Skills
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma or bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications (preferred): NEBOSH IGC, OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent recognized safety certifications.
- Experience: Typically 5+ years in a similar safety role in Saudi Arabia; experience in construction, industrial, or site-based environments is advantageous.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of safety standards, hazard control, and risk mitigation.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and training skills.
- Ability to assess risks and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
